Is Your Dream Someone Else’s Nightmare?

I am currently living my dream….but many, many people wake up in a cold sweat imaging themselves living the lifestyle I’ve chosen!

Technically, I’m homeless, jobless, and my main hobbies are walking around and sleeping on the ground. And all of my possessions could fit in a car.

Are you starting to think maybe those other people are right? That is a nightmare!

Okay, so I’m actually financially secure and purposefully nomadic right now. I use my financial and location freedom to explore the outdoors, often enjoying backpacking in some of the world’s most beautiful places.

But a lot of people I know, get really itchy – physically uncomfortable – when I tell them what I’m doing.

“You don’t miss all your stuff? Aren’t you worried you’re going to be eating cat food when you’re old? Isn’t traveling dangerous?

Truth is, their lives seem like a nightmare to me! Having the high paying, high stress job, with a big mortgage, car payment, and errands to do like picking up the dry cleaning

Not better, not worse – just different different values and priorities.

But spending your money differently to live differently than other people, can be uncomfortable. You can feel like you’re battling societal expectations and cultural norms.

If you are like I was, dreading Monday mornings and counting down to the weekend – feeling like your life is a nightmare, but you have a dream – its time to wake up!

If you choose to embrace a unique path, here are some ways to get started and combat that discomfort along the way:

  1. Find Your Tribe: Connect with like-minded individuals who share your values and lifestyle. Online forums, social media groups, and local meetups can be great places to find support and inspiration.
  2. Focus on Your Goals: Remind yourself why you’re making these choices. Whether it’s financial freedom, travel, or more time with family, keeping your goals front and center can help you stay motivated.
  3. Educate Yourself: Knowledge is power. The more you understand about personal finance, investing, and alternative lifestyles, the more confident you’ll feel in your decisions.
  4. Stay True to Yourself: It doesn’t matter if your journey looks different from everyone else’s, as long as you’re staying true to your self. Don’t compare yourself to others. You’re not in anybody else’s head – so you don’t know how happy others are really, anyway.

Start investing in a life that aligns with your values and passions, whether it be the big house with the white picket fence, or a tent in the back country. Live your dream, if its your dream…not because its what you think is expected of you.
